Hospice
Hospice is a program with an extra layer of support for patients and families with life-limiting illness. A team of specially trained health care providers works hand-in-hand with patients, their families, and their own personal doctors to provide individual tailored physical care, emotional support, expert pain and symptom management and spiritual support. In addition to the patient’s own doctor a physician with expertise and certification in hospice and palliative care is available to the patient. The goal is to live each day to the fullest in the environment the patient chooses. Bereavement support is provided for 13 months after the death of a loved one for family and friends. In addition, community education programs are available. Hospice is provided through Home Care agencies.

Project SAGE is the domestic violence prevention organization for the Northwest Corner.
Project SAGE offers free and confidential services to all victims of domestic violence and abuse in the towns of Canaan, Cornwall, Kent, North Canaan, Salisbury, and Sharon. Domestic violence/abuse includes physical, emotional, psychological, verbal, financial and sexual abuse in the context of an intimate partner relationship. Services include: 24-hour hotline, short-term crisis counseling for adults and children, support groups for adults and children, legal/medical/social service advocacy, short-term emergency shelter, transportation, and community education and professional in-service training.
If the person seeking service is a victim of domestic violence and they are out of the area but living in CT they can call the CT Statewide Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-888-774-2900. This is a 24-hour toll-free hotline. The caller will be connected to the domestic violence program in their immediate area.
If the person seeking services is a victim of domestic violence and they are from out of state they can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). This is a 24-hour toll-free hotline. The caller will be connected to the domestic violence program closest to them in their state.
If the person seeking services is a victim of sexual assault outside of the context of an intimate partner relationship (i.e. stranger rape) and they live in the local area, they can contact the Susan B. Anthony Project in Torrington, CT via their 24-hour hotline at (860) 482-7133
If the person seeking services is a victim of sexual assault and is out of the area but living in CT they can call the CT Statewide Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-888-999-5545. This is also a 24-hour toll-free hotline. The caller will be connected to the domestic violence program in their immediate area.
If the person seeking services is a victim of sexual assault and they are from out of state they can call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673). This is a 24-hour toll-free hotline. The caller will be connected to the sexual assault program closest to them in their state.
